Scientific Recognition of the Displayed Emotions

New online free service from Microsoft allows you something that could be considered a Sci-Fi just 20 years ago – it allows you to identify exact emotions, communicated by the facial expressions, in an image.

The whole operation is fast, simple, and does not require sign-in or registration. Upload images from the pics stored on your computer or through the valid URL link directly from the Web.  

Limitations:
* Image resolution ≥ 36x36 pixels and the file size < 4MB,
* Supported image formats include JPEG, PNG, GIF (the first frame), and BMP.
* The frontal and near-frontal faces have the best results.
* And the maximum returning faces is set to 64 for each image.

Free Legal Streaming Movies on YouTube – Straight from Paramount Studios

There are several good fee-based subscription services for the music streaming, there are some free legal and semi-legal streaming web sites, and there are not too legal torrents with the movies you may download from the Web.

And now Paramount Studios has created a YouTube channel that offers viewers the chance to watch a selection of their films for free.

Paramount Vault launched a few weeks ago, but has just started to catch on with viewers.

"The Paramount Vault showcases a collection of Paramount full-length films and clips including selections that range from black-and-white to color, comedy to horror, and everything in between," the official description of the Vault states. "Viewers are invited to explore the vast landscape of cinema's history, share their favorite films, and discover new ones through this official channel created by Paramount Pictures."

Looking through the list of movies, which are organized by genre on the YouTube channel, there are hundreds of films to choose from! Some movies have been notoriously hard to track down in the past, but you can now watch them for free whenever you want!

The current library is a great mixture of genuinely good movies, forgotten and under-looked gems, and a healthy dose of junk. Signing up for Wiggio is standard. You have to set up an account and confirm by clicking on a link in an email. From there, you have two options. You can join an existing group or create a new group.

Beyond the standard request for an email address and a password, Wiggio also requests your cell phone number and your provider. While you do not have to provide that information, with it, Wiggio will send you text messages about posts and other activities happening in your groups. According to Wiggio’s policy, such information will be kept private. There is not a lot of information about their security measures available on their site, however. It is up to you whether you want to trust Wiggio with your phone number.

Creating a New Group

When you create a new group, it is very obvious that Wiggio started out as a way to organize groups at school. Beyond the choice of business, you can organize a group for your class, sorority, student government or a host of other student activities.

The Interface

* Wiggio’s interface is very simple — many clearly labeled buttons that less-than-internet-savvy group members can handle without much trouble. There are six main tools:

* Calendar — A simple shared calendar that allows you to manage group events. There is no easy way to add this calendar to whatever time management system you use, but you can set up an automatic email whenever a change is made to the calendar (or any other part of your group). Gmail seems to be able translate those emails into Google Calendar events without an issue.
* Folder — You can upload most file types to your Wiggio groups. Wiggio can even handle version tracking automatically. A group member can download the file, change it and re-upload it. He does not need to change the file name or anything for Wiggio to recognize it as a new version. Old versions are still available.
* Meeting — Wiggio offers two types of meetings for users: a chatroom and a conference call. For conference calls, Wiggio uses Rondee, a free conference call service. Wiggio will also host chats for your group.
* Poll — Not all collaboration applications offer any tools to help with decision making, but with Wiggio’s Poll system, you can matters to a vote in your group. You do not even need to track responses to get an answer.
* Messages — Through Wiggio, you can send messages to group members in three different ways: text message, email and voice note. You can also post notes on your group’s home page, but no guarantee that group members will log in and see them. I was a little concerned at first that the text message and voice mail options meant that the entire group would have access to my phone number, but all of that is handled internally.
* Links — The link tool is simply a place to paste in links so that your group has a shared set of bookmarks.

Wiggio’s tools aren’t anything new, but the way they’re put together make them very easy to work with. For those of us who wind up spending more time explaining to a group how to use collaboration software than working on our group project, Wiggio’s interface makes it very worthwhile. And while other sites offer more robust conferencing tools, Wiggio’s ability to keep up with group comments is a great option for those organizations not so dependent on teleconferencing.

There is definitely an assumption for Wiggio that group members are not going to be sitting at their desks all day, every day. If you have had problems keeping touch with those members of your group that seem to prioritize their social lives over group meetings, being able to send them text message reminders may prove invaluable.

If you are managing multiple groups, Wiggio’s interface does make the process easier. Recent updates to all your groups are shown on your homepage as icons showing which tool has been used. You can navigate directly to specific updates, rather than going through your groups to get to particular tool pages, and you can easily navigate between multiple groups. Adding new members to your groups is just as simple as knowing their email addresses, as well — they can easily be members of multiple groups with no fuss.

Wiggio was designed by a group of seniors at Cornell University who were tired of the variety of tools they had to use to keep their group projects running and systems that required techno-savvy to use. Rather than struggle with list-servs and long email lists, they put together one site that could do it all — and for all the different groups they participated in at school. The Wiggio team is clearly starting to branch out to other organizations, like small businesses and committees, as well. There is no cost to use Wiggio. The site uses advertisements to make money.

Audio Does Not Work After Windows 10 Upgrade - Resolved

If you have agreed for your Microsoft Operating System complementary upgrade to the Windows 10, you might already have recent opportunity to perform it.

And here is my personal experience.

The process of the system upgrade is simple, straightforward and fully automatic. You may start it immediately upon receiving the related invitation, or you may schedule it for later time, more suitable for the background processes to perform the task.

While I cannot say I have explored all the new features and capabilities, the original experience is quite positive, with almost no obvious issues and hiccups. I say almost, because the audio stopped working altogether.

Here is the sequence of my troubleshooting actions to restore the audio performance of my computer:

* Reconnected 3.5-mm audio cable for my speakers at the back of the computer. Negative effect.

* Connected speakers to the front connector to verify that the issue is not related to the particular connection. No changes.

* Connected headphones to assure that it is not particular issue with my elderly computer speakers. No sound with headphones as well.

* Connected USB headphones to check the sound card performance in general. Yes! After drivers update, the sound is present.

* All the previous steps point out on the possibility that the problem source is the outdated or corrupted Sound Drivers.

--- With right mouse click brought context menu and selected Updated Driver Software… option. After the driver was updated successfully, the audio has been restored.

How to Recognize Any Audio Clip in Matter of Seconds?

What is it?
AudioTag.info — is a free music-recognition service. It allows you to identify almost any unknown piece of music quickly and easily. An optimal duration of an analyzed (uploaded) piece of an audio is 15-45 seconds. Shorter and longer audio files can be recognized as well. Generally, recognition process is performed as follows: uploaded file is sliced into portions of 15 seconds each; 1 to 3 music slices are chosen at random and analyzed one by one. Therefore, to save your time and bandwidth, it is recommended to upload relatively short audio fragments of 15 to 45 seconds.

How to identify music in YouTube videos?


This week, I posted video of me dancing at the Dance Outside! Festival in Oakland and activated the video monetization option. Next day, I have been notified that the monetization has been canceled because the author copyrighted the audio, played as the music background. Wow, I thought! In spite of the relatively low audio quality, the embedded YouTube algorithm has allowed to recognize the audio composition and get all the associated information.

To my surprise, I have discovered that there is freely available online service, allowing you to do the same. The only purpose of MooMash is to identify music, used as background, in YouTube videos.

The process is simple and straightforward:
* Paste a YouTube link.
* Click the "moo" button.
* Wait for identification.

Depending on how long the video is and how many videos are currently being analyzed, it can take a couple of seconds or up to 15 minutes for the team of highly trained cows to go through the video and compare its sound to the 7 million songs they memorized. In my case, the identification process took no more than 20 seconds.


As added bonus, you get advice on any similar identified videos that may interest you, which might be quite handy if you found music clip you like, and you want to check other songs from the same group or composer.

It might be challenging for students, especially for freshmen, to study effectively and have time for fun. In this post, we will propose some recommendations and will offer several useful free services.

How to Study Effectively

* Make a time schedule. A schedule lets you pick the best times to study, work, and play. It puts you in charge of your time. Buy or make a weekly planning guide and use it to schedule key events, assignments, and deadlines. Keep it with you and try to stick to it. Soon planning your time will become automatic.
* Prioritize. It can be difficult to remember everything you need to accomplish. Keep a list of things to do and write down all of your tasks, including study and class projects. Beside each task write a letter or number indicating its priority. "A" priorities need immediate attention and are important, "B" priorities are important but not urgent, and "C" priorities are not important nor urgent and can wait. Work on "A" priorities first, and then move to "B".
* Study each day at the same time and place. Consistency forms a habit. In keeping the same time and place for studying, you can eliminate many distractions and lost time. Study in a place where you can stay focused.
* Plan to study just prior to and immediately after class. The best time to retain information is while the notes are fresh in your mind. Try to study prior to a discussion period and right after a lecture. Doing so will help you remember important concepts and organize what you have just learned.
* Plan study time throughout the day according to your ability to concentrate. You have points throughout the day when you are at your peak. Be aware of those times and schedule "A" priorities and difficult tasks or studying during your peak hours. Schedule less demanding tasks during your low energy periods.
* Set goals for each study period. Sit down to study with an agenda of what you want to accomplish. Completing a task will give you momentum to accomplish more.
* Take advantage of "waiting time" to review. Ten-minute segments add up and can be helpful. Carry review cards or a book with you to study between classes, while waiting for an appointment or a friend, etc.
* Don't wait until you are in the mood to study. You may never be in the mood and you will lose precious time while waiting for the mood to strike. Discipline yourself to stick to your study schedule; it will keep you from having to cram during exam time.
* Plan time for fun. Schedule time each day or week to do things that recharge your creative batteries or help put your life in perspective. You can decrease stress and achieve a nice balance between work and play, when you have planned enough time for both.

Are you having issues with loading web pages or downloading the movies? Do you want to ensure that the Internet speed you are paying for to your provider is indeed is in the range of the proposed service plan? Perform the test. It takes just couple of minutes to do so.

Measuring download and upload speed does not require any software to be installed in your PC. It is simply a matter of transferring a small, non-executable data file from the test server to your PC, and then moving the file back to the server from your PC. That is all that is needed to be done.

Ping measures how fast you get a response back from the test server. The lower the number is the better. If you play online multiplayer games, you will want less than 100 milliseconds. How to Repair your Freezing Kindle Paperwhite?


Possible Causes

Kindles typically freeze because the processor load becomes more than the device's limited memory and processing power can handle. This most commonly occurs during periods of high use or when trying to access websites using the Kindle's wireless capabilities. If the device freezes during a time when it is not being used it may be because of reduced power to the processor due to the Kindle's battery being low or outdated firmware that does not fully support the features being used.


Kindle Restart

If your Kindle Paperwhite stops behaving in its usual speedy fashion or freezes, you can typically resolve the problem by doing a menu restart or a hard restart.

Begin by performing a menu restart your Kindle Paperwhite:

* Tap Menu→Settings.
* Tap Menu→Restart (Restart is the third item on the drop-down menu that appears.)

Your Kindle Paperwhite displays the start-up screen and a progress bar. After a minute or so, the device restarts and displays the Home screen.

If the menu restart does not resolve the problem, try a hard restart:

* Press and hold down the power button for 45 seconds (7-15 seconds for a second-generation Kindle Paperwhite).
* The screen goes blank.
* Press the power button again — just a simple press as if you were taking your Kindle Paperwhite out of sleep mode.
* The start-up screen appears with a silhouetted child reading under a tree. In a few seconds, the device begins the restart process and displays a progress bar. When that restart is complete, you see the Home screen.

Firmware Updates

One way to prevent problems with a Kindle freezing up is to make sure that your Kindle device has the latest firmware version installed. Firmware updates are software installations that upgrade the way that the device itself works, fixing problems and introducing new functions.

If an update is available, your Kindle Paperwhite will download it when you turn on the wireless and connect to a network. If you notice a screen that says Your Kindle Is Updating, this is what is happening.

* Go to your Amazon account by typing www.amazon.com/myk and log in.
* In the left column, choose Manage Your Devices.

Necessary updates happen automatically through the wireless connection. Just be aware that if the screen looks different or if you find new features, the device probably went through an automatic update.

Kindle Reset

If all other methods fail, and you have exhausted troubleshooting the issue, you can reset your Kindle Paperwhite back to factory specifications.

Resetting your Kindle Paperwhite should be a last-resort step. Consider calling Amazon Kindle customer service before undertaking a factory reset on your own. The direct toll-free number for Kindle customer service is 1-866-321-8851. Customers outside the United States should call 1-206-266-0927.

To reset your Kindle Paperwhite to its original out-of-the-box state, follow these steps:
* Tap Menu→Settings.
* Tap Menu→Reset Device.
* When you see the warning, tap Yes.

Your Kindle Paperwhite resets. You have to re-register the device with Amazon and download your Kindle e-books and other content from the Cloud at your Amazon account. You also need to retransfer any personal documents that you have loaded on your Kindle Paperwhite from your computer.
